on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, President Donald Trump gave his second State of the Union Address and he covered several issues such as new abortion laws and preventing another government shutdown. Here are 5 things you should have taken away from President Trumps State of the Union Address.

1.) Trump will meet with Kim Jong Un

President Trump announced that he is planning a two-day summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam Later this month. Trump also took pride in that the United States would be at war with North Korea if he wasn't elected President.

2.) President Trump will not back down on a border wall

Throughout the entire address, President Trump encourages both political parties to work together on making a compromise for the Mexican border wall. He said "Americans should embrace compromise and "choose greatness"". The longest government shutdown in U.S. history was because both political parties couldn't come to a consensus about funding for the Southern border wall.

3.) Trump takes a firm stance against New Tork's landmark abortion law

Lawmakers in New York passed a new law that protects women's right to seek an abortion procedure without any restrictions until 24 weeks of pregnancy. Trump called on Congress to pass legislation that would prohibit what he called "late-term abortion". He has been very vocal about being anti-abortion.

4.) Protecting patients with pre-existing conditions

The President encouraged Congress to pay more attention and prioritize lowering the cost of prescription drugs and healthcare. He also talks about how people with these pre-existing conditions must receive protection. "It is unacceptable that Americans pay vastly more than people in other countries for the exact same drug,"

5.) The President condemns anti-Semitism

He said that "We must never ignore the vile poison of anti-Semitism or those who spread its venomous creed.". He also honored the two Holocaust survivors that survived the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in U.S. history at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.
